Chambers USA Guide 2020 Honors Sacks Tierney's Native American Law Practice and SBA Member Judith Dworkin

April 29, 2020

Sacks Tierney's Indian and tribal relations attorneys regularly represent tribes, tribal corporations and tribal enterprises, as well as individual Native Americans, in all aspects of Indian law. Our tribal clients benefit from Sacks Tierney’s significant expertise in such areas as: 1) sovereignty and limited waivers of sovereign immunity, 2) the application of federal and state tax laws to tribal activities, and 3) economic development and advancement efforts being undertaken by tribes.

The firm’s strong relationships with tribal governments and knowledge of pertinent federal laws allows it to represent private-sector developers and other types of businesses in economic development efforts on tribal lands. Sacks Tierney has been involved in the gaming industry and the development of recreational and commercial enterprises on Arizona reservations.

We are also pleased to announce Chambers USA 2020 has awarded Judith Dworkin a Band 1 ranking, the highest Chambers ranking, for her Arizona Native American law expertise.

Judith Dworkin leads the firm's Indian Law and Tribal Relations practice group. She offers broad experience in Indian law, with a major emphasis on assisting Indian tribes in achieving their economic development objectives.

Judith often serves as general counsel for tribal clients, providing advice on business and governmental issues. She interprets applicable law, attends and counsels at tribal council, board meetings, and meetings of tribal membership.

Dworkin is admitted to the Navajo Nation Bar and has practiced before the Courts of the Tohono O’odham Nation, Gila River Indian Community, Hopi Tribe, Hualapai Tribe, San Carlos Apache Tribe and Navajo Nation.

MONICA LINDSTROM APPOINTED TO ARIZONA FOUNDATION FOR WOMEN BOARD

Congratulations to Monica Lindstrom, Past President and Board Member of the Scottsdale Bar Association, on her appointment to the Arizona Foundation for Women Board of Directors.

The Foundation was founded in 1995 by community trailblazer and philanthropist Marilyn R. Seymann and a group of local leaders.  It was founded in response to the low rate of philanthropic giving to women’s issues — just 4 percent of giving at the time was directed to women’s causes. The Foundation joined other women’s funds and foundations from across the nation and world to create a “women’s funding movement.” As part of that movement, the Foundation has contributed more than $2 million to the community since its inception.

CHRISTINE JENSEN APPOINTED TO ARIZONA HUMANE SOCIETY BOARD

Congratulations to Scottsdale Bar member Christine Jensen on her appointment to the Arizona Human Society Board of Directors.

Since 1957, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has fostered the belief that every pet deserves a good life. With a vision to end animal suffering, we rescue, heal, adopt and advocate for sick, injured and abused animals.

What once began as a small shelter established by a compassionate group of volunteers has since grown to become the state’s largest animal welfare and protection agency, as well as the state’s designated responder for animals in distress during natural disasters.
