The Night of the Living Will IS BAAAACK! Join us at the Area Agency on Aging Office on Saturday, October 26, 2024
Sponsors: Arizona State Bar Elder Law Section and the Maricopa County Area Agency on Aging
Dress up as your favorite G-rated character and help members of the community prepare Health Care Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. No experience necessary! (There will be a training session for anyone who needs it.)
The team at the Area Agency on Aging will connect attorneys with participants. We're planning 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch break at noon. There's no need to commit to the whole day. Just morning or afternoon is fine, too. Let us know how much time you have, and we'll accommodate you. But please dress up! Being in costume makes the event fun and the subject easier to talk about.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to know anything about Healthcare Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, estate planning or elder law? Nope. There will be a training provided for the attorneys. You will have the Attorney General's forms to review beforehand (see link above). There will be experienced elder law attorneys available to answer questions AND the participants receive instructions before meeting with the attorney so they will be informed and ready.
- Will the participants fill out a Financial Power of Attorney or a Last Will and Testament? No. Only the Durable Healthcare Power of Attorney and the Living Will. We will not be using the Mental Health Power of Attorney or the Do Not Resuscitate forms.
- Are there costume restrictions? Yes. Use your common sense. Nothing sexy, political, religious, scary, no masks, no blood, no weapons. For example, Miss Frizzle, Yes. Freddy Krueger, No. If in doubt, let us know.
- Will you provide costume suggestions? Yes. It doesn't have to be complicated. It's just fun and helps put the participant at ease.
- Do I have to wear a costume? Of course, you wet blanket!
- Will I incur any conflicts as a result of meeting with people? No. Participants are required to sign a Conflict Waiver form as they do with other State Bar events. Last year's form is attached.
- Do you need Spanish speaking attorneys? Yes! This is probably our greatest need.
