Please DO NOT MAIL CHECKS FOR THE LUNCHEON. Either pay in advance on the website via credit card or bring a check or cash (exact change appreciated) to the luncheon. Note: We charge $5 MORE than what the website lists to pay by check or cash at the luncheon, even if you pre-registered.

Non-members who pay via credit card will be charged a convenience fee by our website provider ($2.00 for a charge up to $50; $3 for over $50 up to 250).

Please arrive by 11:45 to check in at the registration desk. The program begins promptly at noon.

We cannot accept late registrations.
Cancellation Policy:
We cannot give a credit for cancellations after the registration deadline. After the deadline, we give Gainey a guarantee, and we pay for your meal whether you attend or not.

You are starting a business. What form should it take? A business lawyer and an accountant will explore the legal and accounting pros and cons of limited liability companies, corporations and other business forms. Among other things, we will focus on protecting business owners from personal liability by preventing “piercing of the corporate veil”.

Charles R. Berry represents business entities and individuals in a wide spectrum of transactions, focusing primarily on capital formation and business management, including public and private offerings, private equity and venture capital financings, as well as dealing with securities industry licensing and investigations.

Charlie prepared the first “plain English” initial public offering of securities registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and has extensive experience in securities regulation, public offerings, business mergers, acquisitions and sales, private placements, and compliance with the periodic reporting requirements of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

In addition to debt and equity financings, Charlie has represented securities dealers, their registered representatives, and registered investment advisers in connection with regulatory compliance matters and investigations. He has participated in many Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrations, representing claimants and respondents, as well as serving as an arbitrator and conducting arbitrator training.

Anthony Joseph Plese, CPA, founder of Wallace Plese + Dreher, has over 30 years of experience in accounting, tax, and business consulting. As a Senior Advisor, he helps clients with tax strategies to maximize business values and minimize business and personal income tax liability. Through client education and collaboration, he provides comprehensive guidance regarding tax rates and elections. As a confidant, trusted advisor, and problem-solver, many of his client relationships span from business inception to succession planning. Anthony holds an Arizona Certified Public Accountant license. He earned a Bachelor of Science, Accounting, from Northern Arizona University, and Master of Science, Taxation, from Golden Gate University. He is a life member and actively participates with the Tempe Diablos and served on the Board of Directors of Northern Arizona University Foundation for over 20 years.

Jakob I. Klein, CPA, Tax Manager, Wallace Plese +Dreher, has nearly ten years of combined industry and public accounting experience. He provides tax and business consulting services to individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and estates and trusts throughout Arizona. In collaboration with estate and trust attorneys, Jake consults with individuals and business owners about charitable giving and appropriate mechanisms. Concentrating on personalized service, Jake assists clients with understanding complex tax issues and reducing taxes, including differences between tax credits and deductions. Jake holds an Arizona Certified Public Accountant license and earned a Bachelor of Science, Accountancy, from Northern Arizona University. As Co-Chair, Advisory Board, Arizona Society of CPAs (ASCPA), Jake presents on a variety of topics for the Phoenix Tax Workshop.

Vegan Entrée: Vegetable stir fry with fried rice
 
All meals served with rolls and butter, Southwest Caesar Salad with romaine, corn, black bean, avocado, chili lime dressing, corn tortilla crisp (GF/DF) and angel food cake with mixed berry compote (DF).

Share the fun!  Invite a friend to experience the networking, social and educational opportunities of the Scottsdale Bar Association!  Current members may invite a prospective member to attend an upcoming lunch for free.  Here are the rules:
 
1.  The guest must be eligible for membership in the Scottsdale Bar Association.  See www.scottsdalebar.org, click on Membership Information, then Membership Categories.

2.  The guest cannot be a former Scottsdale Bar member.

3.  The guest cannot have attended lunch for free in the past.

4.  The member must attend the luncheon with the guest.
 
5. The member must register him/herself for the luncheon, then contact Paige Martin at paigemartinesq@aol.com with the guest’s name and email address, and choice of regular or vegan meal, so that she can register the guest.  Member registration and the request for guest registration must be completed before the registration cut-off on the Friday before the luncheon, at noon.

6.  The member can only invite one guest to any luncheon.

7.  The member is responsible for following up with his/her guest after the luncheon to invite the guest to join Scottsdale Bar.

8.  The Board of Directors reserves the right to limit the number of guests attending each luncheon.
